INTERVIEW
Grid pressure, rising demand and the challenge of innovation decision-making in utilities
Jeroen Boon, Enterprise Account Executive, EMEA, Lux Research
Utilities know what they need to do. The visions are set, the ambitions are agreed, and the case for building the grid of tomorrow is well understood. The harder question is how to get there when everything around you keeps changing.
Grid congestion is already a daily reality. Demand is rising, driven in part by the surge in data centre load. Geopolitical uncertainty is reshaping priorities. And innovation leaders are being asked to make long-term investment decisions in conditions where nobody can reliably predict what the next five years look like, let alone the next ten.
Jeroen Boon, Enterprise Account Executive EMEA at Lux Research, argues that information is no longer the bottleneck. There is plenty of it. The challenge is knowing which decisions to back, which technologies to prioritise, and how to build the case internally when colleagues across the business have different KPIs, different pressures, and different definitions of urgency. Everybody is willing to change, he argues. Getting change to actually happen is a different problem.
Watch the video to hear Jeroen’s perspective on what innovation leaders in utilities are grappling with right now, and how to make better decisions in an environment where so much is in flux.
