Michael joined UK Power Reserve in February 2017, where he is currently Director of Policy and Regulation. He began his career with the UK Diplomatic Service where he held a variety of positions in the UK and overseas, including roles developing international energy and climate change policy.
After nearly a decade at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Michael moved to Ofgem to develop and implement the European Third Energy Package. He also led on the regulation of the UK gas interconnectors and represented Ofgem at the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER).
Michael then moved to National Grid as European Policy Advisor, leading the system operator’s representation in Europe on natural gas issues, including at the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG). He was also the National Grid board member for Prisma, the European gas capacity trading platform. Immediately prior to joining UKPR, Michael was Head of UK and EU policy, responsible for coordinating policy across the National Grid family of businesses.
