Maxine Mayhew is managing director of Costain’s natural resources division and a member of Costain’s Executive Board.
Maxine’s 20 years of experience working for United Utilities and Northumbrian Water for given her a deep understanding of the issues faced by water companies. She held a variety of senior roles focused on leadership, innovation, commercial development and strategy delivery across all aspects of the industry from operations and engineering through to central support services (marketing, supply chain, SHEQ) and retail operations.
She joined Costain in 2017 as water sector director, before being promoted to group capability director, responsible for developing Costain’s capabilities across its 5 service areas of technology, strategic consultancy, consultancy and advisory, complex delivery and asset optimisation.
As natural resources managing director, she is responsible for the water, energy and defence sectors as well as continuing to develop Costain’s consultancy proposition. She is passionate about innovation and joined Costain because she could see the need for step change to move the industry forward and was excited by its broad range of capabilities and expertise. She is responsible for leading a diverse team that works collaboratively with clients and partners to drive a different way of thinking and subsequently creates new approaches to embed technology-led solutions that deliver game changing outcomes for clients and their customers.
Maxine has a PhD in wastewater treatment and has recently been listed in the top 100 Most Influential Women in the engineering sector by inclusive Board in partnership with the Financial Times and is an independent council member for Cranfield University.
