Lucian Balea is Deputy Director of R&D and Open Source Director at RTE, the French power transmission system operator. He plays a leading role in guiding the company’s R&D activities and also leads RTE’s open source strategy, which aims to take the digitisation of the electricity grid into a new era. In early 2018, he began a collaboration with The Linux Foundation to launch LF Energy, an open source coalition aiming to accelerate technological innovation and support the energy transition worldwide, for which he is now Chair of the Board. Lucian has been with RTE since 2003, where he has held several management positions in the fields of R&D, markets and finance.
