Gordon has advised in and around the UK water industry for 15 years, advising water utilities, contractors, environmental regulators, and local and central government on planning, environmental and industry regulatory matters. Gordon led advice on transposition of the Water Framework Directive at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and on secondment to the Scottish Government. He then led advice to Northern Ireland Water on reform of the water industry in the province. Over the years he has advised many of the UK water companies including Scottish Water, United Utilities, Severn Trent, Southern Water, Anglian Water, as well as the UK Water Industry Research Council and Water UK. He also acted for London Borough of Southwark throughout the examination of the DCO application for the Thames Tideway Tunnel. Most recently he was instrumental in the firm’s winning appointment to the panel of Water Plus Limited, the largest supplier participating in the new water and sewerage retail market for businesses in England, and has been making the case for a new approach to consenting large flood defence projects under the Planning Act 2008.
