Director for Short Term Asset Optimisation - EU, EDP Group

I am currently the Managing Director for the Short Term Asset Optimization in Europe, within the Global Energy Management Platform at EDP. 57 years old, born and raised in Lisbon but with an academic degree completed at the Oporto University in 1990. In this same year, I´ve joined EDP to work at the National Dispatch for the Electric System and after some years moved to the System Optimization and Commercial Operations Division until 2002. When the liberalization process of the Energy Sector started in Portugal, left to work on the team responsible for the creation of the Energy Markets Division, implementing all IT systems and business procedures for the Trading activities. The Short-Term Asset Optimization – Europe division is responsible for all the management of generation portfolios within the European Markets with merchant assets, managing both conventional & renewable generation, from bidding into day-ahead and intraday markets, real-time generation and imbalance optimization, Short/Medium Term Planning, Outages coordination and Ancillary Services markets (currently only in Portugal and Spain), in coordination with the local System Operators (REN and REE). Member of some international WG´s at Eurelectric and Energy Traders Europe and also participates in I&D European projects.
