Director of Asset Management, Northern Powergrid

Mark Drye is the Director of Asset Management at Northern Powergrid, a company whose main activity is running the power network that delivers electricity to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. Northern Powergrid is part of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, which itself is a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Mark joined the electricity industry in 1987 and is a Chartered Engineer. Starting out with Yorkshire Electricity in 1987 he progressed through a number of technical and then managerial roles.  Yorkshire Electricity merged with Northern Electric in 2001 and Mark continued his progression within the merged company and joined Northern Powergrid’s Executive in 2006

Mark’s directorate encompasses the responsibility for all technical policy, investment strategy and planning, system design, investment delivery and asset-related information management. His responsibilities also extend to include the procurement function for the company.

In addition to this Mark is actively involved in policy development at an industry level, serving on groups that advise the Government and Ofgem on the development of networks to meet the challenges of a low carbon economy and distributed generation.
