For more than 10 years John has been at the helm of SGN taking it from meagre beginnings and developing it into one of the most respected and highly efficient energy companies in the UK.

His passion for innovation and using it to put gas firmly in UKs 21st Century energy mix, has seen groundbreaking projects being delivered in many areas. He’s been the driving force in putting the company at the forefront of the robotics revolution in gas networks as well as the advancements from gas quality projects. He’s also been the force behind SGN becoming the leading network for biomethane connections in the UK, committing the company to having 250,000 homes on green gas by 2021.

John is a champion of developing his people taking personal interest in many areas, including the apprentice and graduate programmes and external promotion of STEM subjects to young people, which he sees as essential to securing the future of the gas industry. John actively promotes a strong community ethos across the company, leading by example in championing teamwork and a community spirit.

John now has over 30 years’ experience within the utility sector, is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a companion of the Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM). He’s also an incorporated engineer and holds a BSc (Hons) plus an MBA. He’s a past director of the Energy Networks Association and a current non-executive director of Associated British Ports (ABP).
